It’s always very exciting to be short-listed for an award, especially as a debut author. Let me assure you it is even more exciting to be announced the winner of the Australian Crime Writers Association 2023 Ned Kelly Award for Best True Crime. The other four authors on the short list all wrote and published equally amazing and impressive books about true crime, often with insider access to information and operational details not normally available to the public. I share my award with them in the sense our collective contribution to Australian book writing and publishing is something of which we can all be proud. Books, readers and telling stories — true or fiction — are an essential element of the human psyche.
